Neatly arranged copper cable bundles and cable guides in a network rack

Newly built or modernised – without halting operations.

We build new data halls or renew the UPS, distribution and monitoring in existing facilities – in phases, with work windows.

Range of services

New build & modernisation

In a new build, we construct the electrical infrastructure of a data hall from the grid connection to the rack PDU: distribution, UPS, standby generator, cold-/hot-aisle containment, monitoring and the room’s electrical installation. The data hall is accepted as a whole, with a load test.

In existing facilities, the starting point is different. The installation is running, the data hall is in use, and replacing the UPS, batteries or distribution has to fit around operations. That is why we work in phases, with agreed work windows and temporary supplies for the loads that must stay powered.

Separate cable and power routes in a spacious service corridor

We divide the work into phases by supply path, not by the calendar. A rack on two feeds is easier to reconnect than one on a single feed – and that determines the sequence, the duration and the number of interruptions.

Every phase ends with a load test and a written report. That way, there is a clear record of which part of the installation has been accepted and which is still on a temporary supply. At the end comes the operating documentation – and, on request, the service contract.

Scope of services

Full scope of services: from the condition survey to the operating documentation.

  • Condition survey of the installation
  • Concept with availability target
  • Phase planning by supply path
  • Temporary supplies and reconnection
  • Distribution, UPS, standby power
  • Cold-/hot-aisle containment
  • Monitoring and sensors
  • Load test per phase
  • Operating documentation
Services
Condition survey, concept with availability target, phase planning, temporary supplies, execution, load test per phase, documentation
Clients
Data centre operators, developers, general contractors, electrical design engineers
Records
Load test report per phase, acceptance report, system and measuring point documentation
Approach in existing facilities
In phases, with agreed work windows and temporary supplies; the sequence follows the supply paths
Typical applications
Data halls at shell stage, server rooms with end-of-life UPS systems, expansion with additional rack rows

Renewing existing facilities: the rules

Work windows
We agree with the operator in advance when work will be carried out on which stage, and record it in the phasing plan.
Temporary supplies
Loads that must stay powered are connected to a temporary feed for the duration of the phase. This feed, too, is tested and recorded.
Fallback plan
For every switchover, there is a defined way back to the original state should a test fail.
Acceptance per phase
A load test and a written report complete each phase before the next one begins. Open items are not carried over into the next phase.

Frequently asked questions

What does “availability targets up to Tier IV” mean?

Tier I to IV are the Uptime Institute’s availability classes; Tier IV means fault-tolerant and concurrently maintainable. We design installations to the target you need – up to Tier IV. Certification applies only to a specific data centre and is awarded only by the Uptime Institute.
